Clown single cover
The cover for Kadara’s single Clown was designed to capture the essence of the song, creating a visual representation that reflects both its title and the deeper meaning behind the lyrics.

visual direction
The visual direction I’m pursuing focuses on creating a unique design that prominently showcases the artist’s face, making it the central element of the cover.
My moodboard draws inspiration from posters with tear-like paper effects, two-tone opacity treatments, and other experimental techniques, combining these ideas to craft a design that feels both striking and distinctive.
The goal is to develop a visual identity that captures attention while reflecting the mood and essence of the music.

development
The portrait GIF, captures a powerful transformation that explores identity and emotion, through makeup. It begins with a bare, natural look soft and unfiltered then gradually reveals a clown-inspired design applied to the left side of the model’s face.
This asymmetrical change shifts the entire mood of the image, introducing a visual tension between authenticity and facade. The transformation becomes a metaphor for self-expression and the internal conflict between how we feel and what we show.
The final frame, cropped to the face and stylized with a torn paper effect, reinforces this concept. The final frame, cropped tightly to the face and stylized with a torn paper effect, emphasizes this split identity.
The left side is washed in a yellow-green hue, evoking the unsettling, exaggerated nature of the clown persona, while the right remains in black and white, anchoring the image in raw emotion and reality.
This contrast powerfully echoes the track’s themes of duality, performance, and the blurred lines between who we are and what we present to the world.
self-reflection
Working on this project gave me the chance to take a playful, hands-on approach to image-making, combining photography, makeup, and colour in a way that felt both creative and experimental. I really enjoyed exploring how bold, symbolic makeup and an unusual colour palette could shift the tone of the visuals and communicate deeper meaning.
As the transformation progressed frame by frame, I was able to create a narrative that visually reflects the emotional themes of the track. The clown-inspired makeup and torn paper effect became key elements in expressing the contrast between internal emotion and outward performance.
I feel the final outcome ties closely to the song’s title and message, and visually captures that sense of duality. Overall this project helped me grow more confident in developing conceptual ideas and translating them into impactful, expressive visuals.
