Disciple Construction
Disciple Construction’s business card was crafted to reflect both the company’s meticulous craftsmanship and its faith-driven mission in a bold, modern design.

Typeface Exploration
In developing the brand, I considered several typefaces to capture different tones. Big Caslon brings elegance and tradition through its classic serif style, while Kumba Sans offers a narrow, blocky structure with a modern, functional feel. Capture Smallz Clean stands out for its unconventional design, with vertical slits giving it a sharp, distinctive edge.
I ultimately chose Octarine for its bold, geometric presence and contemporary clarity. Its strength and confidence align with the faith-based values of the business, symbolising trust, conviction, and forward momentum.
Visual Direction
For the business card direction, I explored a range of two-tone black and white designs, reflecting the client’s decision to work solely within this monochrome palette. The examples I gathered demonstrate how simplicity and contrast can be elevated through thoughtful use of typography, composition, and spacing.
The black-and-white pairing creates a strong, timeless identity that feels both minimal and professional, while still carrying a bold presence.
I also noted how some designs integrated QR codes seamlessly, which not only adds a modern, interactive element but also helps keep the layout clean by reducing the amount of text-based contact information required. This combination of clarity, functionality, and visual impact made these cards strong references for the overall direction.
Experimentation
Drawing inspiration from the visual direction board, I initially explored minimalist layouts using positive and negative space with subtle shapes and lines. While this created balance, the design felt too plain and lacked character.
To strengthen the back of the card, I introduced a bold blacked-out section featuring a Bible verse chosen by the client, adding depth while reflecting the business’s faith-based values.
On the front, the design began simply but evolved to better capture creativity and impact. Following the client’s request for a cross, I integrated it into the final “T” of the word construction, creating a subtle yet meaningful logo element.
I also refined the typography, opting for a bolder, more distinctive typeface and enlarging the size for emphasis.
At the client’s request, the logo remained in uppercase, while construction was set in lowercase, striking a balance between strength, clarity, and individuality.

Self-reflection
Reflecting on this project, I really enjoyed the creative process and found it both challenging and rewarding. I am particularly proud of the back of the business card, which became a strong visual element that balanced the design and effectively communicated the client’s values.
The bolded Bible verse added meaningful depth, giving the design purpose beyond aesthetics. The front of the card also came together well, with thoughtful typographic choices that enhanced readability and professionalism while aligning with the client’s vision.
Although there was potential to explore additional refinements and variations, this project provided valuable experience in balancing creativity with client expectations.
Overall, I am proud of how the design communicates clarity, professionalism, and the core values of the business.
